Introduction

The Sublime Folios perhaps encompass the deeper aspects of my thinking towards photography. Each demonstrate a maturing and progression towards capturing images that possess an intrinsic worth that renders them timeless. Of course more maturing and more work has to be done to progress this sphere of my expression but it has been a pleasure to capture these images over the years. Each Sublime Folio contains twelve images.

Sublime Folio 1

The images in this folio are primarily of sunsets and my desire to capture the often emotionally charged feeling that beautiful sunsets generate in most of us. I shot these in many countries including Peru through to Barnstaple in England and beautiful Scotland. It is a shame my best work is on film and currently archived from ten years previously. I did a shoot once in Dominica and that sunset was the best I have been privileged to experience. Pity I did not have a digital camera then. Oh well a trip back to Dominica is in order then.

Sublime Folio 2

My goodness! I awoke one Saturday morning to see my neighbourhood enveloped in thick mist and fog. I then dashed out of my house grabbing my camera and tripod and raced unwashed and unshaven to the train station to catch a short journey into London. The bridges were enveloped in the thickest mist I have ever seen and my imagination ran wild. The images in this folio represent for me a significant leap forwards concerning deeper thought. I did not study any great historic photographer but simply looked outside and ran my socks off to get to the River Thames. I treasure this collection as it was the coldest morning in London during last year and my fingers numbed out. I stumbled into The North Face Store (Covent Garden) where my work mates poked fun at my cold fingers. One of these images was exhibited at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design and formed the inspiration behind the Shots Directory 2010 Young Photographers Competition. There are some disparate images in this folio but a common thread does exist and a sort of story. Can you see it? These images try to merge some of my favourite places into one series. From the sunsets that soften London through to Peru. London is a superb place for exploring and as such you can photograph and try to capture anything and everything. The bridges across the River Thames on a cold clear winters night affords you such scope to produce works that can be considered art. So I do try. I need to try more but these represent a small collection of my forays at night across the Thames.

Sublime Folio 3

It is such a privilege to shoot in a monochrome and once in a while I delight in photographing the outdoors exclusively in one tone. These photographs were taken in an around the Aberdeenshire coastline last October and I am intent on going back again for hours on end to capture more beauty

Sublime Folio 4

This is an assortment and does not need any explaining but when I am less busy I shall come back and explain this collection. One thing to note is that the sunrises from Caithness General Hospital during the cold dark winter months is absolutely beautiful. It is beautiful up here and can only be appreciated existing through a sub-Siberian winter.
